Brrr…its cold outside! Winter weather can sometimes make working out seem less than desirable. After all, who likes to dress like a mummy to go for a run, or spend time heating up the car to make it to your favorite class?
Although you may want to hang out by the fire with a cup of tea, or stay snuggled up in your warm bed, winter shouldn’t be a time that your fitness plans hibernate, especially with all of those holiday treats around. With the right attitude and mix of exercises, winter can actually be a great time to mix up your workouts, and find new exciting activities. Not to mention, exercise can help you beat those winter blues!
Here are some tips to staying healthy and active this winter.
1. Try something new:
Stave off boredom by trying a new class, even if you haven’t had the interest. You may be surprised. Pay attention to how you feel when you walk out of that class. Do you have a smile on your face, do you feel stress free?
2. Go on a workout date:
Bring a buddy, family member, or love interest to a fun class. Continue the date at the snack counter, so you can chat about the class, refuel, and talk about what to try next.
3. Keep a log:
Remember how awesome you felt after your workout? How all of your stress melted away? Keep a personal log so you can go back to remind yourself why you should get back to the gym.
4. Think spring:
Make a goal! Where do you want your fitness level to be when spring hits? Do you have a new outfit to fit into? Do want to participate in the Montana Spartan Race? Row in the Montana Dragon Boat Races? Want to be fit enough to hike in Glacier? How about just having enough energy to have a great day?
Remember, winter is just beginning. We will do our best to keep you motivated, but we can’t come drag you out of your house every day. Find your date, pick a class, grab your journal and GO!
